Story

“When I became CEO of Bruin in 2012, I immediately turned to Phil for support. He first coached me when I was on the partnership track at Deloitte and he’s been a near-constant source of advice ever since. The difference in your mindset between going into a session with him and coming out is like night and day.

I’m very focused on aggressive growth in my business life. Phil has helped me channel that within the context of a strategic arc that includes where I want a business to head overall and my own personal needs.

Running a med tech firm, where you are trying to get wary medical professionals to accept a radically different new diagnostic product like our Provizio scanner, is very stressful.  Phil taught me how to practice the philosophy of abundance over scarcity. To have a mental outlook that’s all about positive possibilities, not weighed down by potential or past failures. It’s led me to reach out to unlikely partners, for instance, who’ve surprisingly agreed to work with us.”

Results

“His coaching with other firms and leaders has helped me understand how they’ve resolved the sort of issues I might be facing. That’s extremely useful and gets me out of a mired mindset where I think I’m the only person with certain challenges.

Phil did a terrific survey looking into the way we work. We did well in most aspects but our systems and processes were diabolical. I sort of knew they were, but having it confirmed was extremely helpful. I hired someone to address the issue and now our systems and processes are excellent.

Our board has been incredibly challenging at times. Phil has helped me prepare for meetings, such as how to knock back criticisms in a constructive way and how to occupy the meeting space. Meetings have gone significantly better than they might have done.

Acting as a coach in residence, he’s led business-culture away away days for us and facilitated strategy workshops. He’s hugely improved the performance of senior leaders and given me an independent view about the strengths and weaknesses in my team. I’ve made changes, as a result.”
