CEO and Co-Founder, Lightful

“Phil has had a profound effect on who I am and how I lead. His ability to understand where I am in a particular moment and ask the questions that help me get to an answer – whether it’s around an extremely tactical issue or something more strategic – has been a huge contributor to Lightful’s success and impact.”

Story

“I’ve been working with Phil since 2016, two years after Lightful was established. He has made a terrific impact on me, my colleagues and the growth of the company.

He has been a coach in residence, available to me and my fellow founders, our two managing directors, our director of people and other members of the leadership team. All of us have been able to put a lot of trust in him as an individual counsel and also as someone that brings us together as a group.

Results

In the past, with two MDs and three founders, it could be unclear where the responsibility for key decisions lay. Phil helped establish distinct guidelines and made us feel more clear, certain and confident. He helped us work out how individual responsibilities should evolve further as the company grew.

I must say, it’s been a privilege to see how our wonderful MDs have grown as leaders, thanks in no small part to Phil’s coaching.

One of our MDs recently introduced objective and key results measures (OKRs) to the business. These give staff clear company goals but, unlike KPIs, allow much more freedom in how they can contribute to achieving them. Phil, who’d seen how OKRs worked in other firms, was instrumental in advising us how to roll them out. They’ve had excellent employee feedback and a very positive effect on the business.

We’ve been integrating AI into our offering to charities, as a way to help them create digital strategies and create extra capacity to help them do their increasingly vital work.  Phil has been a really important counsel on that, too.”
